#77. Manual Lymph Drainage with John Nickles

The tables are turned when John works on Kevin using the Vodder Method of MLD. Gentle light strokes are used to initiate the flow of lymph toward the major lymph vessels in the neck and groin.

MLD is especially effective for edema (swelling due to lymph) and for older folks who may be less active. The effect it had on me was to thoroughly flush toxins out of my system. I felt drunk! Deep levels of lymph may be addressed in the abdomen by using deeper pressure shown in this second frame. Thanks, John!

Demonstrating the Japanese style Zen shiatsu, Leah gently opens up Theresa's lower back and hips. This beautiful form is somewhat like modern dance to watch and great to receive! In another show Kevin works with Leah's mother Eleanor as he explains the connections between various eastern bodymind theories. Very relaxing!

Kevin and Jon work together on Ms. Mullen, who has a diagnosis of advanced Parkinsons. The issues of overstimulation and flexibility, and the aging population in general are discussed. Valuable to those caring for their own parents, massage and cranial work "add life to years."

Kirk came to the show with a stiff back and neck. In his interview I found out he had been in an accident several years earlier where he was sitting in the passenger seat and had his head hit the windshield. Looking closely you can see his head appears jammed in from the right. The side view shows his weight over the heels, as if leaning back. After only an hour on the show look at how Kirk is more vertical from the front and side. The added span in the torso and release of tension reveals a more relaxed abdomen and more open ribs. With the head more on top, the neck can relax its chronic tension and many other functions, like blood flow, become more efficient.

Sara's mother has had a broken left leg for two years, and through natural imitation of her mother's movement, Sara has transferred weight to the right leg, allowing the left side to sag. She also has an older habit of anterior tilt of the pelvis. At nine years, with this imbalance, she can anticipate many years of mysterious "growing pains" and also have a propensity for scoliosis that is common to adolescent females.

After one hour of intervention she is much less strained, she is centered over her feet and pelvis, and the chest has also opened up. The tension in the lumbar needs more work, but has a better chance of resolving on its own or with continued sessions. As an added bonus, she has experienced a safe therapeutic level of touch and can take that knowledge into her teenage years.
